Lemon essential oil has a fresh, sweet lemony aroma. It has the ability to lift the spirits and is recommended for stress-related fatigue. Lemon oil is also good for oily skin and acne, lymphatic drainage massage and for fighting infection.
Lemon essential oil is cold pressed from the outer part of the fresh fruit peel. It takes approximately 3000 lemons to produce 1 kg of Lemon oil. Although the Lemon tree originated in Asia, the majority of Lemon essential oil is now produced in Sicily. Lemon oil has long been respected for its ability to “lift the spirits”, and is often recommended for stress-related fatigue. It is also believed to increase concentration and awareness and eliminate emotional confusion. It is often used by students or drivers to help them concentrate and stay alert. Lemon also has an affinity with the respiratory system and is a powerful antiseptic.

Safety Note: Lemon is a photosensitive oil which means exposure to sunlight should be avoided when using it, particularly in the first few hours after use. Avoid in massage blends if the skin is over sensitive. Use a maximum of 3 drops in aromatherapy baths. Lemon can have a temporary bleaching effect on some skins (spot test if in doubt).
Skin: Lemon essential oil has antiseptic properties and is useful for treating oily skin and acne, and for reviving a dull complexion. It can help to stop bleeding, which makes it useful in washes for minor grazes and cuts. It is also a popular folk remedy for warts.
Mind: Lemon oil is an uplifting oil and is reputed to have antidepressant properties. It can help to ‘spring-clean’ the mind and enhance mental performance and memory function.
Body: Lemon essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties and can help protect the body against infection.
